Partnerstädte - Bradford

Am Beginn der Partnerschaft mit der englischen Stadt Bradford standen Anfang der 50er Jahre Schulkontakte zu den später eingemeindeten Orten Bingley und Shipley, sowie verschiedene Kontakte auf Vereinsebene. 1976 wurde die Partnerschaft zwischen den Städten Bradford und Hamm offiziell besiegelt.

Bradford ist eine lebendige Metropole mit 520.000 Einwohnern. Ab 1800 entwickelte sich hier zwischen sanften Hügeln und Hochmooren eine boomende Wollindustrie. Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts machten Kaufleute aus dem europäischen Ausland, darunter viele Deutsche, die Stadt zum Zentrum des europäischen Tuchhandels. Das historische Tuchhändlerviertel \'Little Germany\' gilt als städtebauliches Juwel. Weitere Sehenswürdigkeiten sind der historische Leeds-Liverpool-Kanal mit seinen mehrstufigen Schleusen, Saltaire, eine Mustersiedlung des frühen Industriezeitalters, das historische Rathaus und aus jüngster Zeit das National Museum of Photography, Film and Television mit seinem modernen 3-D-Kino.

Der hohe Ausländeranteil von über 20%, davon die Mehrheit pakistanischer Herkunft, brachte der Stadt neben manchen Problemen über 200 asiatische Restaurants und zahlreiche kulturelle Impulse.

Auch wenn sich die Shipley-Hamm Twinning Association aufgelöst hat, organisiert der I.C.H. einen regelmäßigen Austausch, der zu vielen intensiven Freundschaften geführt hat. Bei Bedarf werden darüber hinaus auch Einzel- und Gruppenkontakte vermittelt.

At the beginning of the cooperation with the English town Bradford, which started in the 1950s, were school contacts with villages such as Bingley and Shipley, which were incorporated at a later date, as well as various contacts between both clubs. In 1976 the cooperation between the towns Bradford and Hamm were officially signed.

Bradford is a vibrant metropolis with 520,000 inhabitants. From 1800 onwards a booming wool industry developed between the smooth hills and high-moor bogs. In the middle of the 19th century traders from Europe, among them many Germans, turned the city into the centre of the European cloth trade. The historical quarter of the cloth traders’ ‘Little Germany’ is seen as an architectural jewel. Further sights are the historical Leeds-Liverpool canal with its multi-stage locks, the Saltaire, a model settlement of the early industrial age, a historical town hall and recently the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television with its modern 3D cinema.

The high rate of foreigners, over 20% of the community, the majority being of Pakistani origin, brought about some problems but also added 200 Asian restaurants and numerous cultural influences.

Although the Shipley-Hamm-Twinning Association dissolved, the I.C.H. has still organised exchanges on a regular basis which has led to many close friendships. If required, single or group contacts can also be organised.
